The National service scheme (NSS) is an Indian government sponsored public service program conducted by the ministry of youth affairs and sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS the scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s centenary year in 1936. Aimed at developing students personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in colleges, Universities. It brings academic institutions closer to society.National Service Scheme (NSS) is a permanent youth programme funded by Government of Tamilnadu and Government of India.

The symbol for the NSS has been on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Odisha, India. It signifies the movement in life across time and space, the symbol thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving on NSS for social change.

Nss was formally launched on 24th September 1969, the birth centenary year of Father of Our Nation. Therefore 24th September is celebrated every year as Nss day with appropriate programs and activities. All the activities should be focused towards achieving the objectives of NSS.
National Service Scheme (NSS) cell aims at to develop value besed knowledge, skill, character and contributing to national development. It includes everyone to selfless service. The first unit with 100 members began to function in the year 2006. The second unit was started in the year 2017.
